On October 5th, L'Ensemble Portique, in the first program of its 2003-2004 season, presents Unlikely Partners: An Unexpected Match at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee. This all-contemporary program features chamber music for recorder, flute, violin, cello, harpsichord and piano. A unique aspect of the concert, reflecting the title Unlikely Partners: An Unexpected Match, is the unusual pairing of recorder with piano, and flute with harpsichord. This choice combination developed as a result from the early music revival of the mid-20th century, and has attracted 20th and 21st century composers, inspiring them to blend together the distinct colors of Baroque and modern instruments in their compositions. Selections on the program include Concertino by Lennox Berkeley, Pour presque tous les temps by Florent Schmitt, and two works by Max H. Yount, Dance Permutations and Sonata for Flute, Cello and Harpsichord. Yount, Professor and Chair of the Music Department at Beloit College, has written music for chorus and orchestra, as well as for chamber ensembles and soloists. His compositions have been performed throughout the United States and Germany. He will be performing in both of his works on this concert. Performers include Lisette Kielson, recorder & flute; Karl Orvik, violin; Ana Ruth Bermudez, cello; Max H. Yount, harpsichord; and Erika Schroth, piano. The performance: Sunday, October 5, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. in the Helen Bader Recital Hall at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, 1584 N. Prospect Avenue, Milwaukee.
