Dear Chicago-area early music performer,

By now you've heard about Early Music Chicago--an effort to promote the understanding and enjoyment of early music in the Chicago area through advocacy, programs, and services. You may not have heard much about EMC lately, but we've been busy behind the scenes and can now announce our first major project, and YOU can help.

We've arranged with WFMT Radio (98.7 FM) to air a two-hour radio broadcast at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 2 that will combine recorded performances by area performers and discussions with Early Music Chicago regarding the early music scene. This broadcast will
help publicize the beginning of the performing season and introduce the listening public to the richness and variety of early music in our area.

We hope that you'd like to be one of the performers featured on the air. We'll play one or more recorded samples of your performances, and we'll talk about you and your performances in the upcoming season.

In return, we're asking each performer or group to commit to presenting a workshop for high school students sometime during the 2005-2006 season. EMC will connect you with a school and music educator; the rest of the details will be up to you.

We understand that this might be a substantial commitment on the part of some participants, especially since EMC will not be able to provide any kind of honorarium or technical support. But we think that this opportunity for a significant amount of air time on WFMT will be worth that commitment. Besides, EMC feels that a critical part of growing the early music audience is to educate young people about that repertoire--and we hope that you feel the same way.

Please view the application form at

http://earlymusichicago.org/documents/WFMT_EMC_app.pdf

for further details and consider being part of this project. Deadline for submissions is July 5, with notification of acceptance by July 25.Feel free to email us with questions (Jerry.Fuller@earlybass.com), and above all, tell everyone you know to tune in to WFMT at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 2!

Sincerely,

EMC

Early Music Chicago is off and running!  This past week we taped a special edition of WFMT's Music in Chicago show hosted by Peter Van De Graaff that highlighted over a dozen local early music ensembles and presenters, in a preview to the upcoming season.  The two-hour program features many recordings by local performers and information on their upcoming concert schedules.  The program will be broadcast on Friday, September 2, 2005, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on WFMT, 98.7 FM.  Please tell everyone you know to tune in.

In addition, all local groups included in the broadcast have committed to present an educational program free of charge to elementary and/or high school students in the Chicago area during the 2005-2006 season.  This educational initiative is the first in what EMC hopes to be many efforts to raise awareness about early music in general and local performers in particular.

Early Music Chicago needs your help in promoting the cause of early music.   Contact Jerry Fuller at Jerry.Fuller@earlybass.com or 312-415-2391 if there are specific projects you would like to work on.  We'll also be starting our first membership drive--another way that we can all help.  Meanwhile, you can further the cause by telling people to tune in to the WFMT-EMC show on September 2!
