Early Music Chicago had a tremendous success this past Sunday introducing new audiences to the vital Chicago early music community with a special concert at the Art Institute of Chicago. The concert was featured in John von Rhein's Early Music in Chicago season preview, and was presented by Ars Antigua, Ars Musica of Chicago, and The Oriana Singers. This special performance was part of the Chicago Silk Road Celebration, a collaboration of The City of Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The Silk Road Project.

Congratulations to the Early Music Chicago (EMC) members who performed yesterday to a packed house at the Chicago Cultural Center. EMC member ensembles performing were the Chicago Chorale Chamber Ensemble, directed by Bruce Tammen; Fretknots, an incredible gamba consort of young students led by Craig Trompeter; The Saint Cecilia Consort led by Andrew Fredel; and the Early Music Consort directed by Gary Berkenstock. For the finale, all 36 musicians joined together under the direction of William Chin to perform portions of a Mass by Giovanni Gabrielli. A magnificent sound in a magnificent space!

If you would like to help us increase awareness of early music in Chicago, please email me at JerryFullerEsq@cs.com. You don't need to be a performing musician to join, our only requirement is a love of early music.

We also need help coordinating our membership efforts and assistance acquring our nonprofit status. If you are willing to help out, let me know.

All the best,
