Bach Week Festival P.O. Box 1832 Evanston, IL 60204 (847) 648-0813 www.bachweek.org For Immediate Release Attn: Music, Benefits, Calendar Editors ‘Bachtoberfest’ Blast Oct. 11 to Benefit Evanston’s Bach Week Festival EVANSTON, Ill., Sept. 8, 2009 — Musicians from the venerable Bach Week Festival, held each spring in Evanston since 1974, will present a 70-minute concert featuring music of J.S. Bach at the organization’s first “Bachtoberfest” fundraiser, to be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009, at S.P.A.C.E, 1245 Chicago Ave., Evanston. Tickets to the casual-dress event, which is open to the public, are $50 per person and include food and drink as well as admission to the concert. Proceeds will benefit the 2010 Bach Week Festival, scheduled for April 23, 25, and 30 in Evanston. The Bach works to be performed at the Bachtoberfest benefit include excerpts from an unaccompanied ‘cello suite; the motet “Lobet den Herren,” with the Bach Week Festival Chorus and continuo accompaniment; excerpts from the Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C minor and the Double Violin Concerto in D minor; the chorale "Jesu, joy of man's desiring,” from Cantata 147, with the audience invited to sing along; and the complete Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F. The program will also include “The Swan” by Camille Saint-Saëns and some tongue-in-cheek works by classical music humorist P. D. Q. Bach (Peter Schickele). Musicians will include flutist Louise Dixon, oboist Judith Kulb, French horn player Daniel Gingrich, violinists Stefan Hersh and Mathias Tacke, and ‘cellists Katinka Kleijn and Walter Preucil. Juggler Lewis Kirk will perform in “The Swan.” Guests will include the Bach Week Festival’s longtime music director and avid marathon runner Richard Webster, who will have run in the Chicago Marathon earlier that day — dressed as the illustrious 18th-century composer — to raise funds for the festival. For benefit information and reservations, call 847-648-0813 or visit www.bachweek.org. To order Bachtoberfest tickets by mail, send a check payable to “Bach Week Festival” and a note indicating how many tickets are desired to Bach Week Festival, P.O. Box 1832, Evanston, IL 60204. A rite of spring in the Chicago area for nearly four decades, the Bach Week Festival is the Midwest’s premiere baroque music festival. It features some of the country’s finest musicians, many of whom perform regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. # # # # Press information contact for the Bach Week Festival Nat Silverman Nathan J.
