DATE: January 5, 2011 FOR RELEASE: Immediate RE: Music of the Baroque begins the New Year with orchestral programs Music of the Baroque’s first concerts of the new year feature music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Leopold Mozart, and Haydn. Londoner Jane Glover leads the orchestra in two of Haydn’s “London” symphonies, Nos. 102 and 104. Principal bassoon William Buchman will be heard in the Mozart bassoon concerto, and co-principal trumpet Barbara Butler in his father Leopold Mozart’s trumpet concerto. Performances are Sunday evening, January 23, at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, and Monday evening, January 24, at the Harris Theater. A second program showcasing the principal players of the Music of the Baroque orchestra follows in mid-March. Nicholas Kraemer leads three of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, Nos. 3, 4, and 6, as well as a triple violin concerto from volume two of Tafelmusik by Georg Philipp Telemann, and music by Georg Muffat. These concerts, scored for intimate forces, take place Sunday evening, March 13, at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, and Monday evening, March 14, at the Harris Theater. Handel’s Messiah to be performed during Lent Jane Glover returns in April to lead the Music of the Baroque orchestra, chorus, and soloists in her first-ever performances with the ensemble of Handel’s Messiah—originally composed for performance during Lent, and arguably the most beloved work in the choral repertoire. Soprano Elizabeth Futral, mezzo-soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers, tenor John McVeigh, and baritone Christòpheren Nomura are the featured soloists. Performances of Messiah are Friday evening, April 15, at the Harris Theater, and Sunday afternoon, April 17, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. Music of the Baroque’s 40th concert season comes to a close in May with a program of Mozart’s final three symphonies, Nos. 39, 40, and 41. Mozart authority Jane Glover, whose performances of the composer’s symphonies with Music of the Baroque have drawn consistent praise, leads the orchestra in concerts Sunday evening, May 22, at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, and Monday evening, May 23, at the Harris Theater. All programs except the ensemble’s traditional holiday brass and choral concerts will be presented at the 1500-seat Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The season also includes six performances at 900-seat First United Methodist Church in Evanston and Music of the Baroque’s début at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. Subscription packages and single tickets for the 40th concert 2010–11 season are now on sale online at www.baroque.org or by calling the Music of the Baroque box office, 312.551.1414.
