The Bach & Beethoven Ensemble is pleased to announce a program of works by J.S. Bach. Included are a trio sonata, cello suite, and the charming wedding cantata, O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit, BWV 210.
Originally written as a trio for organ (one line for each hand and one for the feet), the BBE gives it a new spin by reassigning the upper two voices to oboe d'amore and viola, with the "foot" line played by a more conventional basso continuo team. Artistic directors Curtis Foster and Brandi Berry will solo. BBE 'cellist Anna Steinhoff will  also perform one of Bach's intimately beautiful suites for violoncello solo.
Expanding forces somewhat, the program will conclude with one of Bach's handful of secular cantatas, O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit. This particular cantata, which equates music with marital devotion, is scored for pastoral instruments (such as traverso and oboe d'amore) and soprano solo. We will be joined by Hannah Dixon, soprano and Leighann Daihl, traverso.
Founded in 2009 by violinist Brandi Berry and oboist Curtis Foster, the Bach & Beethoven Ensemble is a period instrument ensemble based in Chicago dedicated to presenting music of the 17th century to the current day on historically appropriate instruments. The BBE functions as an artistic collective that allows us to explore a vast amount of highly diverse repertoire, reflecting the interests and strengths of its constituent members. In any given season you may see programs of Monteverdi, Rameau, Schumann or contemporary composers (in addition, of course, to our mainstays and compass points, Bach and Beethoven), all led by different members of the ensemble. For more information on the BBE and its activities, please visit our website at http://bachandbeethoven.org or email us at bbe@bachandbeethoven.org.
