Bella Voce, Chicago’s premier a cappella choral ensemble, kicks off its 30th anniversary season with masterworks from William Byrd and Frank Ferko. Renaissance period composer Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices weaves together elements of the early Tudor Mass with strong Continental influences, while contemporary American composer Frank Ferko’s complex and luminous Stabat Mater is acclaimed the world over. Composed for Bella Voce under the name His Majestie’s Clerkes, this masterwork was pronounced by The Chicago Tribune as a “marvelously intricate and sincerely devout tour de force that showed off… disciplined, sensitive, and uncommonly nuanced singing." This performance will feature internationally renowned soprano Patrice Michaels as soloist.

Bella Voce received the prestigious Alice Parker ASCAP Chorus America Award in 2004 for programming that was "an adventurous stretch" for both singers and audience, notably the 2002 Midwest premiere of Einojuhani Rautavaara's “Vigilia.” The ensemble has recorded for Centaur, Harmonia Mundi, Narada, and Cedille Records.
