For art and music lovers alike!
L’Ensemble Portique presents a multi-media performance as it combines chamber music and art in its last concert of the season.
April 21, 2006 at 7:30 pm
Trinity Lutheran Church
1904 Winnebago Street, Madison, WI
Admission $20/$15
Lisette Kielson, flute
Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cello
Fumi Nishikiori, piano
The Madison-based chamber ensemble performs two grand pieces, both of which were inspired by artists and their work. The five movements of "Reynolda Reflections" for flute, cello and piano by Dan Locklair sprung from five paintings housed in the Reynolda House, Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Written in 2000, this 26-minute work depicts the moods and atmospheres of paintings by American artists Worthington Whittredge, Thomas Hart Benton, Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Sheeler and Elliott Daingerfield.
"Cantata Portique" for flute, cello, piano and electronics by Milwaukee composer, Julie Niedziejko Brandenburg, was composed for L’Ensemble Portique in 2004. An epic work, it is based on flutist Kielson’s grandmother, international artist, Madeleine Stanley Jossem. Brandenburg created “soundscapes…that weave through the live music” and soundbites of Jossem herself as she comments on her life, art and the pain of war.
Slides will be projected during the evening’s performance.
