Dear Fellow Recorder Player:

We (Marilyn Flowers and Weezie Smith) are organizing a recorder orchestra in the midwest to begin this September and are very happy to tell you that Clea Galhano has agreed to be the director!

I am sure that you know that Clea is one of the world's leading recorder players.  She gives concerts around the world; is highly sought after as a master teacher and workshop leader; and is well known for her recordings of renaissance, baroque and contemporary recorder repertory as well as the music of Brazil, her native country.

Our vision for the recorder orchestra is that the group will play quality music and provide an inclusive and friendly environment in which all players will be challenged to improve their skills.  We will work on music that has a variety of styles from renaissance to jazz/Brazilian that features all sizes of the instrument.  Members should be able to move successfully fron one instrument to another using C and F fingerings and reading the bass clef.

We are writing to you at this time because we hope that you will become a member of this exciting new venture in our area.

Let me give you some details:

* We will meet on the following Saturdays: September 27, 2008; October 25, 2008; January 10, 2009; February 21, 2009; and April 18, 2009.

* We will rehearse from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.  This will allow for time to arrange private lessons and/or coaching with Clea should you choose to do so.  Separate fees will be required for these private sessions.

* We will rehearse in the Great Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, Indiana (111 S. Grant Street -- corner of Kirkwood and Grant).

* We plan a recital (perhaps two: one in Bloomington; one in Indianapolis) at the conclusion of the season.  Time(s) and place(s) to be arranged.

* Fees: our expenses will include the fee and travel reimbursement for the director; music purchase and duplication; postage; space rental; publicity.  We hope that each member will pay a yearly fee of $285 to help cover these costs.

Please respond to let us know if you are interested in becoming a part of this new tradition in our own MIDWEST.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Flowers
