NEWBERRY CONSORT AND GUESTS SHINE IN BAROQUE PERFORMANCE

CHICAGO--From March 4 through March 7, 2004, the Newberry Consort's Mary Springfels is joined by eminent guest artists to perform Baroque Brilliance, a concert featuring trio-sonatas composed by the most celebrated French, German, and Italian master of the eighteenth century.

Springfels welcomes her long-time friends--flautist Janet See, oboist Washington McClain, and harpsichordist Arthur Haas--for this flashy Baroque instrumental recital.

  • See, co-principal flautist with the San Francisco Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, is one of today's leading performers on baroque and early classical flutes.
  • McClain, who teaches at McGill University and Indiana University, has performed on baroque and classical instruments with The City Musik and Basically Bach baroque orchestras in Chicago, as well as several others throughout the country.
  • Haas, who is a faculty member of summer early music institutes in Berkeley, Amherst, and the Longy School of Music, is a member of the Aulos Ensemble and Musical Assembly and is renowned throughout Europe and America as a performer of baroque music.

The Newberry Consort will present four performances of Baroque Brilliance in Chicago, Oak Park and Evanston.  Ticket prices vary by section and venue, but range from $20-$37 for general attendance, $18-$33 for Library Associates and seniors, and $10-$18.50 for students.  Open rehearsal tickets are $10, $7, and $5, respectively.  For more information, call the Center for Public Programs at 312-255-3700.
