From October 2 through October 5, 2003, the Newberry Consort presents "In the Court of Queen Elizabeth" as the musical complement to the Newberry Library's "Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend" exhibit. The performance features a true English consort of flute, violin, viols, cittern, lute, bandora and voices. The Newberry Consort's Mary Springfels, David Douglass, Ellen Hargis and Drew Minter welcome guest lutenist and countertenor Mark Rimple, flutist Anita Miller Rieder, lutenist Jacob Heringman and others for a performance of works by William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and John Dowland. The Newberry Consort will present four performances of "In the Court of Queen Elizabeth" in Chicago, Oak Park and Evanston. Ticket prices vary by section and venue, but range from $27-$37 for evening concerts, and $20-$27 for the afternoon matinee. Open rehearsal tickets are $10. A ten-percent discount is available for seniors and Newberry Library Associates, and students receive a fifty-percent discount on tickets. Newberry Library and at the Northwestern University School of Music.
