NEWBERRY CONSORT OFFERS A WELCOME RESPITE
FROM TIME-WORN CAROLS

CHICAGO--Tired of listening to the same old carols?  This holiday season, the Newberry Consort will present "Jubilate!", a festive holiday performance of lesser-known, but equally joyous, music from Renaissance Italy and Germany.

The Newberry Consort's Mary Springfels and David Douglass will be joined by guest harpsichordist David Schrader for a single performance of "Jubilate!" at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2003.  The concert, which features viols, violins, and wind instruments, will be held at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., Chicago.  Tickets are $30-$40.  Seniors receive a 10-percent discount, and students receive a 50-percent discount.  To order tickets, call (312)255-3700.

Experience the thrill of classical music performed in a small, intimate setting.  The Newberry Consort is known for its casual, direct performance style and its eagerness to interact with the audience.  Hear what a difference a small venue can make and start a new holiday tradition.

The Newberry Library is an independent library that is free and open to the public for research and reference in the humanities.  The Newberry offers a wide array of lectures, classes, and concerts, in addition to exhibits related to its collections.

The Newberry Consort is ensemble-in-residence at the Newberry Library and at the Northwestern University School of Music.  Programs are made possible in part with funding from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, a CityArts Program 4 grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and generous individuals known as the Friends of the Consort.  The Anne P. Lederer Research Institute supports the open rehearsals and the Senior Community Project.
