NEWBERRY CONSORT PERFORMS MACHAUT WITH WIT AND CHARM

CHICAGO--From May 20 through May 23, 2004, the Newberry Consort will be joined by guest artist Mark Rimple for Machaut and the Medieval World.  The creative compositions of Guillaume de Machaut are infused with charm, wit, and ironies, which are evident in the Newberry Consort's performance.  Hear mystical harmonies, poetry, and rhythms that altered the course of music in the fourteenth century.

Rimple is known for his performances as both a countertenor and a medieval and renaissance lutenist.  He is a co-founding member of Trefoil, a New York based vocal-instrumental trio devoted to the performance of fourteenth century music, and since the fall of 2001, he has been a regular guest artist with the Newberry Consort.  Rimple is assistant professor of music theory and composition at the West Chester University School of Music.

The Newberry Consort will present four performances of Machaut and the Medieval World in Chicago, Oak Park and Evanston.  Ticket prices vary by section and venue, but range from $20-$37 for general attendance, $18-$33 for Library Associates and seniors, and $10-$18.50 for students.  Open rehearsal tickets are $10, $7, and $5, respectively.  For more information, call the Center for Public Programs at (312)255-3700.
