Indianapolis Early Music Festival


A production of the Festival Music Society of Indiana, The Indianapolis Early Music Festival takes place every June and July at the Indianapolis Arts Center, Indianapolis, Indiana.  In the beginning, the Festival concentrated on the major works of the Baroque era but was later expanded to include that of the Renaissance and Medieval periods.  Music played at FMS concerts was generally composed between 900 A.D. and 1800 A.D.  Performances have included vocal music, both choral and solo; instrumental music, both ensemble and solo; and dance, court, folk and ballet.
Indianapolis EMF 2003 events are scheduled for June 27, June 29, July 11, July 13, July 25, and July 27.

The Madison Early Music Festival features three world-renowned guest artist-in-residence ensembles--Musica Pacifica, Newberry Consort, Piffaro--and other artist/teachers offering eight days of workshop classes and a seven-concert series focusing on the music of Bach, his contemporaries, and his immediate predecessors.  Besides enjoying the concerts offered by guest artists and faculty, individuals who participate in Workshop Classes will find opportunities to learn and practice instrumental and vocal skills, become familiar with German Baroque performance practice and repertoire, learn about the history of music and art through lectures and demonstrations, and perform with other participants along-side faculty and guest-artists.  Coached sessions are available for active performing groups or individuals formed into groups prior to the festival that arrive en masse, or with consorts that are formed at the Workshop.
