School of Music, College of Fine Arts, Boston University In collaboration with ensemble-in-residence Boston Baroque, the Historical Performance Department is a graduate program offering the degrees of Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Historical Performance. Early Music Program Department of Music, Case Western Reserve University Offers programs leading to B.A., M.A., D.M.A., and Ph.D. in Early Music. Department of Music University of Chicago Once the home institution of the eminent early musicologist Howard Mayer Brown, the Department has a strong tradition in historical musicology. The Newberry Consort are Artists-in-Residence. Student performance ensembles include the Motet Choir. Department of Music Claremont Graduate University Offers M.A. and D.M.A. degrees in Historical Performance Practices. Department of Music Cornell University Offers a D.M.A degree in Performance Practice focusing on historically informed performance. School of Music DePaul University Department of Music Duke University Offers an M.A. degree in Performance Practice with a concentration on historically informed performance. Early Music Institute Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Provides a comprehensive program in the study of historical performance on period instruments, supplementing performance with research and theoretical studies, leading to the degrees of B.M, M.M, and D.M in many areas of early music specialization. The Five Colleges Early Music Program A faculty of distinguished performers and scholars at the Five Colleges -- Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, together with the program director, make it possible for students to participate in a wide variety of experiences in the study and performance of music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque Era. College of Music Florida State University Offers the degrees B.M. and M.M. in Harpsichord Performance, Graduate Certificates in Early Music, and M.M. in Musicology (Historical Emphasis). Organ-Harpsichord Division School of Music, University of Illinois Offers a comprehensive curriculum in historically informed organ and harpsichord performance. |
Early Music Program
Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University Provides instruction and performance opportunities in renaissance, medieval, baroque, and early classical music leading to degrees at all levels and in many different areas of specialty. Early Music Department Longy School of Music Extensive course offerings in historical performance, with specialist faculty in all areas of vocal, instrumental, and keyboard music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance through the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Offers programs leading to an Artist Diploma, Master of Music, and Graduate Performance Diploma. Mannes College of Music Offers several degree programs in harpsichord performance. Early Music Area Schulich School of Music, McGill University Combines individual lessons and ensemble training with study of historical approaches to performance, taught by an extensive faculty of early music specialists. School of Music University of Michigan Offers M.M. in Early Keyboard Instruments, and M.M. and D.M.A. in Performance: Harpsichord. Midwest Young Artists Midwest Young Artists' Early Music Ensemble represents an essential area of study and performance that are integral to MYA's curriculum. Early Music at MYA provides an opportunity for students to learn early music repertoire, phrasing, and techniques as well as to actually hear the differences as they perform on period instruments. MYA's Walgreens National Concerto Competition includes an Early Music component, and winners of that competition have the opportunity to perform in concert with Ars Antigua. New England Conservatory of Music The Historical Performance major explores the practical application of historical instruments, techniques, practices, and points of view. Center for Early Music Department of Music, New York University Offers a Certificate in Early Music, also a graduate degree program in Historical Musicology. College of Music University of North Texas Has degree programs leading to M.M. and Ph.D. in Musicology with a concentration in Early Music Performance, degrees at all levels in harpsichord performance, and other opportunities for study in the field of early music. School of Music Northwestern University Offers courses in early music taught by Artists-in-Residence from the Newberry Consort. Home of the Northwestern University Early Music Ensemble. Department of Music University of Notre Dame Has a musicology faculty with a strong focus on early music. Historical Performance Program Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Oberlin College For students whose major focus is Historical Performance, offers Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, Artist's Diploma, and a double-degree program leading to both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music. All students may elect classes in Historical Performance or secondary lessons on a historical instrument as part of their conservatory study. Eastman School of Music University of Rochester Offers the degrees M.M. and D.M.A. in Early Music, Emphasis in Historical Plucked Instruments. Music Conservatory Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University Early Music Performance Program USC Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California Offers M.A. and D.M.A. degrees in Early Music Performance, involving course work in music history, individual instruction on a historical instrument or voice, early music ensemble and collegium workshop, culminating with a thesis. Medieval Institute Western Michigan University Conducts the Early Drama, Art, and Music Project, an ongoing research project.
